Love to see microbial genomics and gene annotation getting such attention.

I’m open to gLMs and genomic context info doing gene annotation better. But AI doesn’t seem categorically different than existing in silico tools -- in particular, hidden Markov models -- in terms of getting us closer to “knowing” what all these genes do. They’re all predictions, and they must be validated with good ol’ fashioned wet lab work. That’s where the bottleneck seems to be.
